Hello and welcome to week three of my London adventure! It’s hard to wrap my head around, but it is also very exciting!
I left off talking about doing a lot last Sunday (Feb 7th) so I will start with that 🙂
So on Sunday, I went out to brunch with my friend at this cute cafe called Stamford Lauder, and I had my very first full English breakfast, which was quite lovely. The tea was probably my favorite part of the meal since it was their house blend and it complimented the breakfast.
We then headed to Kensington to spend our day. It was sunny that day, so we planned to go visit the park and the Natural History Museum. The museum is one of many that are free to the public so anyone can go in and see all the awesome exhibits. Since it was a Sunday afternoon, it was quite crowded with all the families and kids bustling around, enjoying the displays. The actual building itself is impressive and its just really cool to walk through, and the displays they have are amazing, like they have a whole exhibit of 20 million preserved specimens, which was kinda cool but really creepy at the same time. They have awesome animal and human exhibits, especially their dinosaur collection, but unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to go through the dinosaur exhibit since they were renovating it.
After going through the museum, we headed towards Kensington Gardens and walked around. The sun was gone by the time we got to the park and it was back to the gloomy, cloudy and cold London weather I’ve grown to know and (sort of) love. Though its still winter at the moment, there are some flowers that have started to or have already bloomed, which was lovely to see. We even were able to see Kensington Palace from the outside and walk around it when we were finding the closest tube station. We then ended our day out by taking the tube to Chinatown to enjoy Chinese food and admire the lanterns put up in honor of the Chinese New Year.
The rest of the week was very laid back, with just going to class and taking time for myself. I have noticed that my jeans are much looser now even with the different types of food I have been eating.
Since I am not a part of an internship, like a lot of the other students are, I am taking my free time to eat all types of food! From Italian, Turkish, French, Persian, British, and a lot more. I really enjoy the variety of foods that I have to opportunity to try because of number of choices that are here in London. I have even found some of the British food that I’ve tried to be quite lovely (though I wish they seasoned the food with more than just salt and pepper). One food that I have really enjoyed is the pasty, which is a pastry filled with a variety of things like different types of meat, cheese, potatoes and other options. That and the traditional English breakfast have been my favorite so far.
I will have a lot more to talk about for this upcoming week with the day trips that are planned so stay tuned for the next update! Cheers!
