London Week 5: Matilda, Late-Night Adventures, and Rainbows

***Hello friends!! First off, I have to apologize for missing two weeks of blogs!! Honestly, I was slacking off on it and kept putting it off before realizing that two weeks had passed and I still hadn’t posted.  But, I’m here now and ready to update you all on these past two weeks!***

Week five is officially here and I was able to do quite a bit this week.

One of the big things I got to do this week was going to see Matilda for the second time.  I got an amazing deal on tickets and got front row to the show.  It was one of the coolest experiences being able to really see everything up close like the actor’s facial expression and pay attention to details that are missed when watching a show like Matilda from further away.

I have never actually gone to see any plays or musicals outside of high school productions (I was even part of the drama program my Senior year) and it really is an amazing experience.  In both my British Life and Culture and Theatre class, I learned about the amazing shows and the history of plays in London, especially in the West End and its really cool to be able to go and experience an important part of London

This week, I had a lot of time to relax and just explore London.  Not that I wasn’t doing it before, I just didn’t take as much time to explore like this week.  I went out with a friend to find pho, which turned out to be an adventure of its own, getting (slightly) lost and other shenanigans (like terrible puns on my part).  The pho we had was delicious and definitely worth going out in the bitter cold to find.

The next day, we went out towards East London to check out vintage stores in the area as well as Brick Lane, where they had so many Indian and Bengali restaurants that it felt like I was back home in California, exploring Little India in Artesia.  I did find a bagel shop that sells rainbow bagels.  Though they are aesthetically pleasing to the eye, they don’t taste very nice without anything on them.  I’m going to try them with cream cheese next time and update you guys on whether my opinion changed.   The vintage stores we’re interesting to go through since a lot of the stuff was quite different, from the style of the clothes and the types of things that were being sold.  For example, one of the vintage stores were selling tea towels with a sketch of the Royal Family back in the 80’s, which isn’t something that you would find in a vintage store in the US.  After visiting the vintage stores, we went out to try ramen for the first time (for me) and now, I will never have the dry cup of noodles ever again (maybe).

That was basically what my week was like!! Stay tuned for the next post, where I will be officially all caught up with my posts and back on schedule! Cheers!!
