I am beyond pissed and tired of all the bullshit that the Trump administration and the Republicans have pulled over the past two years. From enacting a Muslim ban (and yes… it is a Muslim ban) separating parents from their children at the border and putting them in CAGES, pulling the United States out of the Paris climate deal, the lack of action to limit access to semi-automatic weapons to prevent mass shootings, and of course, the most recent confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh without properly investigating the sexual assault allegations against him.
I know I am not the only one who feels this way. There is so many people frustrated and upset with the direction our country is being taken in by lawmakers who don’t care about the people they represent. If something isn’t done, they will continue to take this country on path that is destructive to our future.
So what the hell can we do?
Yes, getting out on the streets to protest the actions of our government, and wearing “The future is female” shirts are all great and important to the fight for change. But the real way we can make an impact is to VOTE.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GET OUT THERE AND VOTE.
Those in power seem to forget that this country is a democracy and the ones with the real power are the people. If we don’t like what’s going on, rather than bitching and fuming about it, get out there and vote those people out and vote in people who will fight for us and that will represent us.
We are the future, and we recognize the important changes that need to happen in order to continue to prosper. We can’t keep letting people who don’t care about minorities continue to make decisions on our behalf. We need to remind them that they work for us, not the other way around.
The midterm elections are coming up fast and we have an opportunity to have our voices heard. We can change the course of history in November and ignite real tangible change that can benefit everyone in this country.
We need to vote people in that will take action against climate change and ensure that we preserve the future of our planet. We need people who will invest more money into clean energy and education rather than continue to funnel money into the defense budget. We need people that will stand up against the NRA once and for all and enact common sense gun control laws to protect the people from gun violence.
We need to vote in people who will protect a woman’s right to choose what she does with her body and protect Planned Parenthood so all women have equal access to healthcare. We need people in office that will stand with sexual assault survivors and hold abusers accountable rather than protecting them. We need people who believe women and survivors.
We need to vote in people who will work to bring an end to police brutality and mass incarcerations of people of color. We need to vote in people who understand that we can’t say all lives matter until we address that black lives matter.
We, the young people have the world at our fingertips but don’t take advantage of it. We have an opportunity to make our voices heard and change the course of history. We can learn from the mistakes of the past and rise up to fight for all people. Let’s be the generation that breaks down walls even before they have a chance to be built.
But we have to do our part. We have to mobilize and make sure that not only are we heard, but that the people in power have no other choice, but to listen.
